The Mighty Bears @ Edgbaston

On a warm, sunny evening in Birmingham, a group of Stoneleigh players, friends and relatives watched the Warwickshire Bears defeat the Hampshire Royals.

Warwickshire reached 270 odd off 40 overs – in not too dissimilar fashion as you would expect from Stoneleigh themselves on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon.

Jim Troughton, Neil Carter and Rikki Clarke all scored quick-fire half centuries to get up to that imposing figure.

Hampshire seemed to be  in the game when James Vince (future England test player IMO) and Sean Ervine put on 100-odd runs but 3 wickets from Jeetan Patel put paid to Hampshire’s run chase ambitions and Warwickshire sealed a comfortable victory.

Porterfield slashes through cover for a boundary

You see how Porterfield throws his hands at the ball to get the power? Take note Stoneleigh boys! And below – good use of the feet to the spinner.

Overall it was a really good night out at the cricket – we have another one on 17 August same time same place if people are interested in going again.

Cheers
