Undoubtedly LL Crowley’s 8 in front of his mum was a highlight of Sunday’s match but there were other family successes. Nick Hodgson garnered 18 in the presence of his adoring fan club taking videos but the Sutcliffe brothers showed the way. Greg and Hal took a wicket each as Radway posted 185-7 with 94 from opener Mark Barnes. Jitesh had the best analysis with 3-17 while Luke bowled 4 overs for only 9 runs.
The Unicorns had a right old rollercoaster when they batted. After his mum’s delicious tea (Thanks Lyn) , Andy Edg clattered 22 off 8 balls, Phil Chappers made 21 and Sohail had a swipe too many after completing his fifty. But there was an amazing finish as Greg and Hal, coming together with 54 still required, knocked off the runs in an unbeaten stand off only 21 balls. Hal blasted 34 (5 sixes & 1 four) and Greg weighed in with 19 (2 fours and a six). Master batsmen ‘Tiger’ Thompson and ‘The Goose’ were not required. Even Radway’s ‘Mr Cricket’, Phil Douthwaite could only manage 1 wicket.
And don’t forget Saturday’s fine victory over Afro Caribbean. Bealey’s 91 and Skip’s 73 set up a target of 227 which didn’t look nearly enough as the calypso batsmen reached 74-0 off 12 overs. But the game turned in 3 balls as Dazza had one of the openers caught and star batter ‘Dreadlocks’ McCourtie was run out in the same over. Despite some spirited resistance from Carl Weekes, Dazza finished with a 6-fer and Chappers minor bamboozled the last batters to see us to a 47 run victory.
