The six hitting ‘contest’ ended in a tie with Hal and Andy Edg both finishing with 28.

Old C.C. (from Northants) were dismissed for 179.  Chappers P. took 3-39, Deano picked up 2 and Shaggy weighed in with 2-10 which actually takes him to the top of the bowling averages.

Sadly, Tiger Thompson badly injured his knee again while batting and that will finish his season.  Our best wishes for a speedy recovery Luke.  Hope you can still get to Spain.

The answer is Mark Connor who bashed 43 sixes in just 16 innings in 2002.

In total, Mark hit 185 sixes in 9 seasons 1996-2004.

Paul Price managed 38 off 22 innings in 1995 while Chappers J  hit 30 in 18 innnings in 2009.

Andy Edg is coming up on the rails with 26 so far this season.

At the end of day, it didn’t really matter what the result was the real winners were Compton’s team by 5 wickets. Although as a team they have paid £220 to Stoneleigh so thanks for parting with your cash and dignity.

England devastate the Indian defence for the first 7 wickets, although stutter somewhat with Dhoni and Kumar putting on over 80 runs. They finish on 224 giving England almost the whole evening session to put on over 80 without loss.

Arguably the greatest batsman never to wear a Stoneleigh shirt.

An optimistic fan earlier.

It would seem that, just for a change, the country is in crisis. Violence has enveloped our streets as mobs of morons seem intent on distracting themselves and their own pathetic lives by ruining the lives and livelihoods of others.

Shops looted, destroyed then burnt. Cars smashed, overturned then burnt. How does one carry on, or indeed why? How can you predict when this breed of selfish, wanton destruction will raise its ugly head and infect our lives with its cancer?

England’s cricket team, ahead of their 3rd test against India, when they should have been preparing on the crest of a wave after emphatic previous victories earlier in the series, have been locked away in their Birmingham hotel. The violence on the streets around them has caused them such concern that they have been unable, until yesterday, to have a full nets session.

Although this behaviour seems, for the moment to have abated, or at least diminished, the risk of flare-ups must remain a constant threat. To this end, we must ask ourselves this crucial question:

Could this kind of thing happen at Stoneleigh?

The answer, due to the lack of mobile phone shops in the village, and youths, is no.

After losing the toss and fielding on a blustery but warmish afternoon – Stoneleigh made deep inroads into Shilton’s top order. With Luke “Tiger” Thompson opening the bowling, he delivered a barrage of short pitched bowling that the batsmen could not handle and picked up some early wickets to put Stoneleigh in charge.

It looked like Stoneleigh would skittle the opposition for less than 100 and be in for an easy win but in came the number 7 for Shilton to smack a quick 46 to put them back in the game (mostly off James Chapman…. sorry!) to get them to a defendable score of 179-8 off 40 overs.

James redeemed himself with the bat scoring a 75 against a particularly quick opening spell from Shilton’s opening bowler to get Stoneleigh on their way to victory. Needing only 5 and over off the last 20 overs with 5 wickets remaining Stoneleigh were in charge – but a flurry of wickets came (not the norm really!) leaving Mark Edginton and Tiger Thompson as the last wicket stand to get the remaining 15 runs or so.

It all looked to be over as Edgington’s middle stump was uprooted but for Bob Waite to call a no-ball! This was the piece of luck we needed and with 8 needed from the last 2 overs, Luke hit the Shilton leg spinner for 2 fours through mid wicket to seal an unlikely but well deserved victory.
